Historiani, profesor i shkencave politike, Zeev Sternhell, ka vdekur në moshën 85-vjeçare. Zeev Sternhell, born in 1935, is an Israeli historian, political scientist, commentator on the IsraeliPalestinian conflict, and writer. He is one of the world’s leading experts on Fascism. Sternhell headed the Department of Political Science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and writes for Haaretz newspaper. Zeev Sternhell traces the roots of Fascism to revolutionary far-left French movements, adding a branch, called the ‘revolutionary right’, to the three traditional right-wing families cited by René Rémond legitimism, Orleanism, and Bonapartism. Sternhell is a long-time supporter of the Israeli peace camp and writes critically in the Israeli press about the Israeli occupation and policy toward the Palestinians. Sternhell ishte udhëheqës i Degës së Shkencave Politike në Universitetin Çifut të Jerusalemit dhe njëri nga mbrojtësit kryesorë të të drejtave të palestinezëve. Ai e kritikonte ashpër ndërtimin e vendbanimeve izraelite në Bregun e pushtuar Perëndimor, shkruan “France24”, transmeton Gazeta Express.
Rektori i Universitetit Çifut të Jerusalemit, Asher Cohen, e vlerësoi larg historianin e ndjerë, i cili e kishte fituar Çmimin prestigjioz për shkenca politike në Izrael në vitin 2008, duke e cilësuar si një ndër hulumtuesve më të rëndësishëm që i ka nxjerrë ky institucion i arsimit të lartë.
“Hulumtimi i tij inovativ në shkencat politike, që është përkthyer në shumë gjuhë, solli një ndryshim të thellë në perceptimin akademik të lëvizjeve ideologjike, më saktësisht lëvizjeve radikale” – tha Cohen.

Sternhell është lindur në Poloni. Ai i mbijetoi Luftës së Dytë Botërore, por nënën dhe motrën ia vranë nazistët. Pas luftës u vendos në Francë dhe më pas, në Izrael. Ai ka shërbyer edhe si ushtar në forcat e armatosura.
